Less than 20 miles from Manhattan, the Maplewood/South Orange commute to New York City takes approximately 35 minutes.
Both Maplewood’s 25,000 residents and neighboring South Orange’s population of 16,000 share one school district, as well as a variety of annual festivals, amenities and recreational opportunities. Each neighborhood boasts a distinct downtown district, known as The Village, where residents can shop, dine or catch a live performance to support the many local entrepreneurs. South Orange is also home to Seton Hall University.
South Mountain Reservation borders both towns and offers over 2,000 acres of preserved woodlands, a 25-foot waterfall, and plenty of hiking and biking trails. Enjoy outdoor sports, rolling hills, meadows and streams crowned by rustic bridges at the 25-acre Memorial Park designed by the Olmsted Brothers who created Central Park.

The annual Maplewoodstock Music & Art Festival is a free concert where local and national acts perform among local business vendors at Memorial Park. And the Baird Center in South Orange offers year-round dance, theatre and comedy performances.
Fun fact: Ultimate Frisbee was invented in Maplewood in 1968 by Joel Silver at Columbia High School.
